Check Computer Speed

You might have been using a computer for the last couple of years but may not essentially know the exact speed of your computer. This is one of the primary reasons to check computer speed or CPU speed so that you come to judge your system’s performance and check whether it’s running slow due to some virus or other issue.

Checking computer speed has become quite easy nowadays; thanks to the hundreds of PC speed test software available on the internet. Most of these are free and can easily be downloaded and installed on you computer for PC speed test. This software are specially designed to check the CPU speed within minutes and they do it by mainly determining the CPU purchase date, performance enhancing, testing the hard drive and over-clocking. 

The older your computer is, the lesser will be its speed generally, although you can always boost your computer speed by keeping it virus free and performing the small steps of disk defragmentation, registry cleanup, removal of junk and temporary files and other such simple steps.

In case, you do not have an internet access and still wish to analyze the speed of your PC, then do not worry, as the computer has in-built methods and tools of determining the processor speed.  If you are using the latest version of Windows, all you need to do is:

  • Click on the Start Menu, select the Control Panel option and then open the System icon. If you are using the category view in Control Panel, then look for the system icon under the Performance and Maintenance category or System and Maintenance category.  Then select the General tab and you can find the CPU speed, version of Windows and type of CPU.  You can also come to know about the total amount of memory installed in the computer. This is one of the simplest means of checking computer speed.

  • You can also find the same information if you right click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and select the properties option. There also you can find the general tab with the CPU speed, total amount of memory you are using and other related details.

  • Apart from this, there is another way to check computer speed. That is, by opening the run command in the Start Menu and typing in msinfo32 in the run dialog box and click OK. You will get to see the speed of your computer as well as many other detailed information about the system.

  • In case you are using a Macintosh computer with Mac OS X system, then select the Apple menu on the extreme top left corner of the screen and select the option, About This Mac.  You will get to know the processor speed as well as many detailed information about the system.

So, these are some of the alternatives for checking the computer speed, in case, you cannot download the free speed test software from the internet. Just try any of these options and be thoroughly aware of your computer and its CPU speed.
